Stayed: Yelgum Free Camp
Travelling south we did hit a bit of rain, surprise surprise. We headed for Coolangatta to take a photo of the QLD & NSW border marks. After a few turns we found it, luckily not as hectic as Caloundra and we found a car park. Unfortunately Rod was not game enough to go up the hill to Point Danger, so we will come back another time.
Weaving our way through the Tweed Coast we visited Kingscliffe, Cabarita and Hastings Point. The roads were cut south of Pottsville so we headed for the Highway.
We were going to stay along the tweed coast but most didn’t allow Puddy and they were ridiculously priced!
We pulled into Sleepy Hollow (photos) and read some of the local information. Little dingy so we decided we would keep going until Brunswick Heads. 2 minutes down the road we saw a Driver Reviver sign and decided a cuppa would be great! So we pulled in. It wasn’t until we pulled in we realised it was a free camp, with playground and tea and coffee for the next hour. Yep this was us.
Yelgum free camp was pretty good. Lots of room for the kids to ride ripsticks – smooth bitumen and footpaths, toilets and a playground. To top it off they had an information board with “look and find” picture games; which kept us amused for ½ an hour. Only drawback was the trucks at night.
The next day we ventured into Brunswick Heads. We had a walk out onto the beach, out onto the rock wall, around town; the kids played in the playground, fished and we hung out. Loved it and loved it even more that we had our van right there. It is so convenient to have everything right there. We had a cuppa and slice on the water’s edge, lunch and Rod even got a sleep in. The breeze was strong, borderline cold, so with a few windows open it was like having the aircon on.
Mitchell went for a fish and caught his first flathead. He was very excited.
We returned to Yelgum Free Camp again at the end of the day where we set up our portable ensuite and had showers. Mitchell made salt & vinegar fish, which he saw on Hook Line and Sinker. It was lovely, definitely cook that again. We met the new neighbours, who the kids played with and said good night.
We woke in the morning, put Puddy in the car and went to say goodbye to our neighbours. When we returned Puddy had left us a nice surprise in the car!
We departed Yelgum and headed for Ballina.
