It was Mitchell’s birthday when we woke and since I hadn’t wrapped any of his presents I thought I would play a game with him. I covered his eyes and made him guess what each present was. For obvious things, like a book and thongs, I made him guess what was on page 3 and what colour they were. It was a lot of fun. Some of you could probably visualise me doing this.... (evil laugh).
We left Toora and headed for Wilsons Promontory, a National Park which is the most southern part of Australia’s mainland. No cats allowed (oops). So not thinking they would have a officer station 20km from the camp ground we approached the station as we shoved Puddy on the floor and covered her with a pillow.
We found our spot and headed for Squeaky Beach where the sand is made of silicone and squeaks when you walk on it. The beach was AMAZING! Crystal clear waters, white sand and flat with only a couple of rolling waves (which I can handle). Still on the hot side i thought I would get in. I tried. I got as far as my waist, which is pretty good for me. The boys boggie boarded for ages. We also ran into the people we met at Marlay Point on the beach so had a quick chat with them. We went for a drive around but other parts of the NP were closed still from flooding in 2011.
We returned to camp and I thought I would take Mitchell for a fish. Rhys tagged along wanting to boggie board. So down the three of us went and the boys were off boggie boarding. Best $10 we ever spent! I sat on the beach until Rod decided he had finished his snooze and joined me. As we went for a walk along the beach I found a 20 cent coin washed up in the surf, followed by another. Rod then found a 5 cent coin. We continued to walk up and down the beach, about 20 times continually finding money which dated back to the 1960s. Most of the money was covered in an ocean film of green. Unfortunately we didn’t find any rare money L but we had fun.
We returned to camp to shower and have early dinner ready for sun to set to go out and search for WOMBATS! We found many wombats wandering around the camp grounds. This is what Mitchell had been waiting on all day to see (for his birthday). They were sooo cute. Oblivious to the people around them they would just wander off and chew grass, move along and do it again. We saw one possum too.
A storm rolled in with lots of thunder and lightning and rain to follow. It was lovely to go to sleep listening to the pitter patter.
We really had a magical day for Mitchell’s 12th birthday.
