22. Echuca Moama

We headed for Echuca and stopped at a place in the park to have our cuppas. There elder people sat with us and we ended up having a great old chat while the boys took off with their new golf clubs and hit some balls in the adjoining park.

We arrived in Echuca and headed for the information centre to find a good place to stay. Now at this point in our holidays we started to want things in the van parks; if we were paying. In small towns we like to be right near the centre so we can walk to all the facilities. We were lead to one, which on the map didn’t look too far, but it was. So we took it upon ourselves to choose another – Murray River Holiday Park.

It was minimal with the facilities for the kids but close to town, clean and fairly priced. There were minimal van sites and we got the only concrete slabbed one!

We chilled for the afternoon, I even got a very big nana nap in (3 hours Rod tells me, but I doubt it). The kids played on the skate park and playground next door to the van park.

As the night came round the wind picked up and the rains came in. We woke to a very wet day.

Not to be disappointed we took ourselves downtown for the walk and decided on The Holden Museum. Not bad at all. Rod was a tad excited by the toranas and monaros they had there. He even bought a stubby cooler.

We wandered over to the Historic Port and walked up and down. We didn’t go on a paddle boat – the cheapest was $60 for the family for one hour. The river didn’t excite us too much either as it was very brown from all the rain and quite high.

We continued walking up town stopping for a look at some shops. Might I say the caravan shop there, not the disposal shop, was one of the best we’ve seen. Really good. Didn’t buy anything though.

My thoughts on Echuca... pretty town but targeted at the tourists big time. Everything was expensive and lots of coffee shop/bakeries/yuppie shops. There were wine tasting places, cheese and chocolates shops – all very overpriced!
